Reimagining Tradition

The recent renovation of our rooms aimed to combine a sense of local identity along with modern design and comfort and therefore it sough to employ local materials, local forms ,shapes, volumes and typologies of local traditional architecture, creatively reimagined. Many of the elements that can be seen in the room are typologies of exterior architecture that have been internalised and aestheticised, hence they are an abstracting homage to tradition. The design evolved through the fine balance between the traditional and the modern that create a unique harmonious outcome whose equilibrium is the principle of minimalism inherent in both architectural styles. The modern can be traced in a strong sense of axial geometry and symmetry and the traditional element adds plasticity and geometrical play. The modern adds a white canvas, a neutrality and the traditional adds a strong sense of materiality, with this creative perspective the final outcome offers a unique sense of locality along with contemporary utility and comfort. The design of artificial lighting comes to add atmosphere, depth and ambience while it highlights elements and enriches the whole with a sense of serenity.
